I am very happy with the hard work and effort my team made of presenting the golf course to you this year, especially after such a terrible and horrendous winter! I hope that we can build on this strong foundation next year and here’s to continuing to receive such positive feedback from all golfers on how the golf course looks and plays.
Winter works, to prepare the course for a busy 2017, will start in earnest soon and shortly I will let you know what is planned to make Blair Atholl golf course one to be proud of and admired. Rest assured that through these maintenance works there will be as little disruption to your round as possible and you will see the fruits of our labours making the golf course even better next year.
See you on the course soon, wrap up warm and all the best for a busy golfing winter!
Stuart Griffiths, Head Greenkeeper
Well then, another golf season has come and gone and whether it’s me getting older or everyone enjoying themselves greatly, doesn’t time fly?!
October was a quiet month competition-wise, but with the gents and ladies closing competitions having been very successful, we all celebrated the season just gone - some did celebrate more than others on their respective closing days though!!
A great deal of credit goes to Stuart Griffiths and his green keeping staff for maintaining the golf course to such a high standard throughout the whole of this season and we hope that this winter is an uneventful one with the water staying in the River Garry and not coming onto the course!
I am sure that you will join me in wishing Dave and Paul all the very best in taking on the clubhouse franchise and throughout a busy winter period they are planning a few theme nights such as a bingo night, a mind reading night and other themes to be confirmed - keep your eyes peeled and ears open for further news about this and let’s support them as much as possible.
Members are also reminded to keep an eye on the Facebook page for updates and fixture information over the coming weeks.
James Farron, Gents Captain
Our closing competition took the form of a Norwegian Stableford. Thirteen ladies played with an additional two joining us for sandwiches and cakes afterwards. Val Willis won with a very impressive score of 51 points.
The Winter League begins on Wednesday 18th October. Ladies can tee off from 11am onwards. If this day is not suitable then you can arrange to play another day but only one score can be recorded per week!
The Ladies’ dinner and presentation of prizes will take place in Blair Atholl clubhouse on Friday 18th November.
Finally, I would like to thank Mark Pirie, our PGA Pro at Pitlochry Golf, for his support and hard work throughout his many years at Pitlochry.
He will be greatly missed and I wish him and his family all the best for the future.
June Pirnie, Ladies Captain
